Revised 12/06/00 205.050. CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS. The following materials and construction methods, and none other, shall be used in making sewer connections to the municipal system. (1) Materials. All pipe shall be 41' diameter or larger, E=xtra Heavy Cast Jr n S it pipe. conforming to A.S.T.M. Standard Specification A 71 12 and constructed of materials approved bv the Public Works Director. (2) Joints and Connections. The pipe, before joining shall be dry and cl n. All joints and connections shall be constructed of materials approved bv the Public Works Director. designed for use in connecting cast iron soil pipe. In the event it is feasible or necessary, as determined by City Inspector and Engineer, that clay pipe is to be used or any clay pipe and cast iron pipe are to be joined, the typo of joint shall be specified by such technicians for the City. (3) Grades. than 1/8 inch per foot. A grade of 1/4 nch per foot shall be used wherever practicable. It i., the building to be connected. This shall be done bef re proceedin, with any other work. The installer sewer pipes that are to be connected will be located and verified before digging the connecting installation. (a) Unless otherwise approved by the Public Works Director, all house sewers shall have a grade of not less than one - eighth inch (1/8 ") per foot. A grade of one- quarter inch (1/4 ") per foot should be used wherever practical. The contractor shall check grades before constriction proceeds. Wherever possible, the connecting sewer shall join the building at an elevation which is below the basement floor of such building. (b) In the event that a sewer service exists from the main sewer to a point outside of the street. the contractor shall excavate and expose the upper end of the service pipe. The elevation of the pipe leaving the structure shall be determined, and the difference between the two (2) pipes shall be sufficient so that a minimum grade of one - eighth Page 94
