MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538 Joel R. Hanson
Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: November 3, 2000
RE: Little Canada Road Update
Brian Harjes ofHoisington Koegler will be present at Wednesday's meeting to conduct a
review of the modified streetscape bid package for Little Canada Road. (Cost estimates
attached.) We have approximately $550,000 budgeted to complete this work. We have
asked our consultants to itemize components to give us the flexibility of eliminating those
that may jeopardize our budget. Based upon the comments made by the Parks &
Recreation Commission, they would include planters, benches, trash receptacles, fencing.
(See minutes attached.)
We also presented the option of using concrete pavers versus concrete sidewalk in front
of Lakeside Apartments between Middle Street and Market Place Drive. The reason
concrete pavers are being considered is that they will exist at both ends of this walkway.
However, the Parks & Recreation Commission felt that concrete sidewalk was more
appropriate for this area and it will yield us a $10,000 savings.
Delaying the completion of amenities by The Venetian Inn is also presented for your
consideration. Staff is concerned that the concrete pavers and plantings could be
damaged if redevelopment occurs on this site. We have proceeded with the installation
of the streetlights in this area as it will be easier to protect that improvement. The Council
will need to provide final direction on this matter as well. (Saves $17,000 but will need
to be provided for at a later date.)
A plan detail sheet is available at the City Center should you wish to review it prior to
Wednesday' s meeting.
Page 36
