Examples might be requiring a wireless system to <br />monitor wells; traffic monitoring; improved police and fire communications systems; <br />funding a City position that would focus entirely on communications /technology issues, <br />i.e., web site development and management, newsletter, technology needs, etc. <br />Therefore, I would like to ask the Council to forward any suggestions you might have to <br />me so that these ideas can be considered as part of the process. Keep in mind that a <br />preliminary estimated value of community and institutional access as well as various <br />grants funded by AT &T is slightly over $1 million. <br />As the process continues over the next several months and if the companies meet the <br />qualifications for a competitive franchise, the City will be asked to adopt a franchise <br />ordinance. Cor Wilson, Executive Director to the North Suburban Communications <br />Commission, will attend a future Council meeting to explain the process in more detail. <br />Page 33 <br />
