LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (651) 484 -2177 / Fax: (651) 484 -4538
JIM MORELAN, Director
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: September 20, 2000
RE: Multi- department Head Status
The current Little Canada Fire Department Chief will be retiring from the Department at
the end of this year. I am interested in pursuing that position upon his retirement.
The City's current Personnel Policy states that Council approval is necessary for me to
hold that position at the same time that I hold department head status with the City.
I feel that I have been very successful over the past years in separating my Assistant
Chief's position from my City employment. With the Department's plan to hire a
business manager to assist future chiefs with the administrative work for the department,
I expect to be able to maintain that separation.
Thank you for your consideration of this matter. I would appreciate your decision as
soon as possible in order to maintain a timely transfer of personnel within the Fire
Department. If you have any questions, please contact the Fire Chief or me prior to the
September 27th meeting.
Page 74
