Cost
On July 31, 2000 the following proposals were received for the purchase of sewage pumping
station (lift station) equipment for our County Road B lift station. The costs are as follows:
Company Proposed Cost
USEMCO $27,199.00
General Repair Service $40,579.00
Davies Water Equipment $44,300.00
City Engineers Estimated Cost $42,000.00
The USEMCO package station is $13,380 less than the next higher proposal. Therefore, from
the standpoint of initial capital cost alone USEMCO provides the most financially appealing
station.
Ease of operation and ease of maintenance
The General Repair Services (Gorman Rupp) package station is manufactured entirely by
Gorman Rupp. Therefore, each station's equipment components are the same. The USEMCO
and Davies stations are pieced together with various equipment as needed to meet each specific
station needs. Therefore, the equipment components manufactures change from station to station
resulting in more complex operation and maintenance.
City maintenance crews are very familiar with the Gorman Rupp package stations. The City
currently has three of these stations installed, therefore, familiarity and an immediate comfort
level for city maintenance crews is high.
As a result, the Gorman Rupp station scores higher in both of these categories.
Support services
With General Repair past record of availability and being located in Vadnais Heights, response
time is far less that the Tomah, Wisconsin based USEMCO and Brooklyn Park based Davies.
Also, having three Gorman Rupp stations in the city, city crews are very familiar with the type of
services, quality of service and service response time provided by General Repair. As a result,
the Gorman Rupp station scores higher in this category.
Experience
Gorman Rupp has more of these types of stations in operation in the metro area and greater
Minnesota than the USEMCO and Davies. The city engineer could not find any of the Davies
style stations in Minnesota. USEMCO had some other style station in Minnesota but none of the
style we are requesting. As a result, the Gorman Rupp station scores higher in this category.
Reliability of equipment
Based on the city engineers experience, the reliability pumps, controls and other equipment
proposed by the three companies is good. Based on our past experience with the Gorman Rupp
equipment city crews feel very confident with their equipment. As a result, the Gorman Rupp
station scores higher in this category.
H:Uessicaj\Agenda\August I8 \Cty Rd B lift station.dc
Page 150
