LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (651) 484 -2177 / Fax: (651) 484 -4538
JIM MORELAN, Director
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: May 19, 2000
RE: MN Recreation & Park Association Softball Tournament
The Little Canada 16- year -old youth fastpitch team, coached by Larry Hartmann, has
asked to host an adult tournament as a team fundraiser. The tournament will be held at
Pioneer Park August 18 through 21, 2000. It is an adult men's state class "D" slowpitch
tournament coordinated by the MN Recreation & Park Association (MRPA). All
proceeds from the tournament will go toward the 16- year -old Little Canada Fastpitch
Program.
This tournament differs somewhat from the tournament another Little Canada fastpitch
team has been conducting as a fundraiser at Pioneer Park in that it is an adult tournament.
MRPA- sponsored tournaments of this nature sell beer at these events and our Little
Canada team is requesting a 3.2 beer license.
The team's assistant coach, Don Bowman, is an officer of a non - profit corporation
(Sportsmen Softball Club). This organization is making application for the 3.2 beer
license in order to enable the team to purchase the necessary insurance through the MN
Joint Underwriters Association. Adults that are associated with the team will conduct all
beer sales.
I recommend approval of the attached application for the license to conduct 3,2 beer sales
at this event.
Page 53
