2000 GOAL SETTING SESSION
Seventeen participants offered their suggestions for goals that the City should accomplish
during the year 2000. These goals were recorded, participants ranked the goals, and the
rankings were tabulated based on the scenarios attached.
It was decided to rank each person's top ten goals from the list of 30 items generated at
this workshop. The ranking assigned 50 points for the top priority, 45 for the second, 40
for the third, and five less points for each priority whereby the 10th item received five
points. Tabulations were done based upon the total points received by each item.
Tabulations were broken down by elected officials, non - elected officials, and a total for
all participants.
Priority rankings were assigned based upon the elected official tabulations. To be a
priority for 2000, an item had to be in the top 10 based upon total points received and it
also had to have at least three elected officials who voted for that item. Based upon this
process, only eight items meet the criteria. The top eight goals are as follows:
1. Finalize thoroughfare plans with sites; identify sites for acquisition in
undeveloped areas.
2. Make decision on Public Works Garage renovation/new construction.
3. Explore cooperative agreement with St. John's regarding community space in
their proposed building project.
4. Identify and acquire easements for missing trail sections.
5. Complete Little Canada Road Reconstruction.
6. Discuss/decide need for senior housing/transitional housing/assisted living.
7. Evaluate water meter replacement program.
8. Evaluate the acceptance of credit card payments for city services.
The City Administrator indicated that City staff would put together work plans for
accomplishing the top ten goals. These work plans will be presented to the Council for
their review and input within the next month.
The goal setting session was then adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
PAGE 2
