TO: Joel
FROM: Elizabeth
DATE: March 16, 2000
RE: Goose Control
In areas where geese may be considered a problem, the primary attraction is turf grass.
ReJex -iT (active ingredient: methyl anthranilate, grape flavor) is a non -toxic chemical
that deters geese from treated areas. The active ingredient is the same compound that
gives concord grapes their characteristic flavor. I spoke with Dr. James Cooper about
this product and his comments are as follows:
• The chemical is a safe, FDA approved, non - carcinogenic product.
• This product is an artificial grape flavor with a grape scent associated with it.
Once on shoes or clothing scent will stay for several months.
• The product is soluble in water with no adverse affects. Its natural
decomposition is from sunlight.
• The life of the product is fourteen (14) days. However if there are heavy rains
reapplication will be necessary as the product is water - soluble.
• This product deters geese and /or birds from the chemically treated area
causing geese to relocate to an untreated area. The chemical does not harm
the geese or other birds, but will deter all birds from the treated area.
• The cost is $59.00 per gallon, which treats 1/3 of an acre.
Flight Control is another product on the market with similar affect. It is a naturally
occurring compound that works like a biological fence. When sprayed on turf, the
compound absorbs ultraviolet light, something the geese can see and humans do not.
This sends a visual warning signal to the geese that something is wrong with their food.
This product does not have a scent or noticeable residue on the turf. If geese ingest
this product they will experience a "harmless" digestive irritation. The cost of this
product is $195.03 per gallon and covers one (1) acre.
Page 73
