515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: February 18, 2000
RE: Building Official Contract
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Sealze
Jim LaValle
Steve Mercian
I3ob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you know, Greg Schmit has given us notice of termination of his contract as our Building
Official. Steve Westerhaus, Greg's associate, is poised to take over for Greg. I am working with
him to finalize a new contract for him to continue in this position.
Greg's contract was paying him 60% of permit and plan check fees for all buildings, except
those located within our redevelopment districts and the Pitrina Townhome development. I am
negotiating a lesser fee with Steve given the experience differential. (Steve will be utilizing
Greg to assist in commercial plan check reviews until he gets up to speed in this area.)
I am confident Steve and I will work out the financial terms prior to Wednesday's meeting. The
balance of the contract terms will be very similar to our contract with Greg. I will attempt to
have a final contract in the additions for this meeting.
Cc: Steve Westerhaus
Page 136
