MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
February 3, 2000
MUSIC IN
THE PARK
property, the developer had to readjust his plan. This adjustment resulted in additional
parkland for the City. Instead of a looped road now, there is a cul -de -sac running north from
Little Canada Road. A walking path is shown from the cul -de -sac to the park.
The Public Works Director stated that he gave a memo to the Council recommending a 10-
foot easement for the walking trail with an 8 -foot bituminous path that would enable easier
maintenance.
The commission reconfirmed their previous motion made in October 1999 to accept land in
lieu of cash for the park charge on the Little Canada Road/Jackson Street development.
Broten asked if the developer was allowed to borrow soil from the parkland for use on the
development. The City Administrator felt the developer would not need the extra soil.
Sanders asked if drainage will be addressed on the north end of the parkland by installation
of a pond. The City Administrator stated that drainage will be reviewed during the platting
stage.
Anderson asked if any Commission Members would like to volunteer to organize the Music
in the Park series to be held every Wednesday evening in July. He commented that former
Commission Member Muriel Bianchi will be happy to help assist anyone who is interested.
Danielson agreed to organize this year's events. She stated that she will contact Bianchi for
the information.
Anderson stated that the Parks & Recreation Director may be willing to send letters
requesting donations to the charitable organizations in the City. An article should be placed
in the June issue of the City's newsletter. The deadline for that issue is April 24. The other
commission members indicated that they would help with flyer distribution and attendance at
the events. Pechman stated that she has last year's flyers on her computer and can easily
create this year's flyers.
Anderson thanked Danielson for volunteering to organize the Music in the Park series.
PROJECT Sanders reviewed plans for the Vadnais Boulevard trail and the Spooner /Gervais Mill park
UPDATES entrances with the Commission.
OTHER
The Public Works Director commented that City staff has many projects to accomplish this
year. A list of those projects was distributed to the Commission members. He stated that
some of those projects may be able to be combined with the park entrance projects to achieve
a cost savings. The Public Works Director asked Sanders to continue working on the
specifications for the park entrance projects and submit them for City staff review. City staff
will then be able to see if any of our projects could be bid with the park entrance projects.
Sanders stated that the Pioneer lighting project is 90% complete.
Gray asked Sanders how the DNR grants meeting went. Sanders stated that the meeting was
informative.
Page 14
