MINUTES
SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING
TUESDAY, JUNE 26, 2012
9:00 A.M.
Those present: Bill Dircks, Jim Morelan, Derek Anderson, Joe Steele, and Kathy Glanzer.
Committee members reported that the May 24th safety training at Falcon Heights on PPE,
Hearing, Confined Space, and Hot Work went well, as did the Seasonal Training that was held at
Little Canada. The next training will be July 26th at Little Canada and will cover Trenching,
Earthmoving Equipment, and Summer Injuries.
Jim and Bill indicated they will inspect the City's various first aid kits to ensure they have the
minimum supplies necessary. Kathy reported that accessory kits for the City's AEDs have been
installed. She also reported that the reason AED pads need replacement every two years is that
the gel in the pads begins to breakdown and dry. When that happens the pads are not able to
conduct the electrical power needed to shock.
The Committee reviewed the one open item relative to SafeAssure's Simulated OSHA
Inspection. Bill indicated that electrical circuits at the City Center need labeling. This will
require testing to be done after hours. This is likely a fall /winter project, so may not be
completed until then.
The committee discussed SafeAssure's suggestion that there be a LOTO procedure in place for
each piece of equipment. Chad Peterson of SafeAssure sent out templates for the City's use.
These templates will be reviewed, and this matter discussed at the next committee meeting.
Jim reported that the tables at the City Center and some at the Parks Maintenance Garage are in
need of replacement due to wear as well as the fact that they are very heavy and not easily
maneuvered. It was the consensus of the Safety Committee that these tables should be replaced
with lighter and more durable tables. The lighter tables will be a safety improvement given the
decreased potential for injuries in setting up and taking tables down.
The next meeting of the Safety Committee will be held on Tuesday, August 28th, at 10:00 a.m.
