Hanson
www.ci.little-eanada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: July 6, 2012
RE: Certify Abatement Costs for 2600 Spruce
This past April, we contracted for the abatement of nuisances at 2600 Spruce Street associated
with a fire damaged garage and related material. After soliciting proposals, we contracted with
Minneapolis Garage Builders, LLC for the abatement work at a cost of $3,800. During the
process, the occupants place additional materials (mattresses) outside for removal and also asked
that a storage shed be removed from the property. There was an additional $800 charge for this
work that the owner /occupant agreed to prior to commencement of removal.
The final cost of the contracted abatement work was $4,600. In our abatement notice, the
owners were informed that an administrative fee of not more than 25% would be added to the
contracted cost. Staff is recommending we charge the 25% maximum for an additional amount
of $1,150 to cover the costs associated with coordinating the abatement and the certification
process. Therefore, staff is recommending we certify $5,750 to property taxes for the
abatement activity at 2600 Spruce Street.
cc: James White, 2600 Spruce Street
Thomas White, 2595 Sylvan Street
Deb Parker — via email
