Hanson City staff was approached by the business owner of Auto Plus Exporter, 182 Ryan Lane, inquiring about whether city ordinance allowed for a temporary repair license. I-Ie indicated that he will be closing his business in about 60 days, but needed to complete the repairs on the vehicles he has in his shop. City ordinance does allow for a repair license for a period shorter than one year, but by City Council approval. 807.050. APPLICATION, A motor vehicle repair license shall be issued by the City pursuant to application made by the applicant upon the, form to be furnished by the City. The fee for such license shall be established by City Council resolution with the license period commencing July 1 of each year. The license shall be for a term of one year, except that the City Council shall have the authority to issue a license for a period shorter than one year to guarantee compliance with all conditions of the license and with all conditions of the zoning regulations. The license fee for any part of a year shall be the same as for a full year. The application shall contain the name and address of the applicant, the location where the license is to be used and such other information as the City may require for purposes of the administration of this Chapter. Attached to this memo is the proposed temporary Automotive Salvage Repair License that would be issued to Auto Plus Exporter. Staff has included very specific language with regards to the term of the license, license renewal, and transferability. City ordinance allows for four (4) automotive salvage repair licenses to be in effect at one time. However, an administrative error occurred last year and a fifth license was issued. With Auto Plus Exporter closure this would be the number of salvage repair licenses into compliance. As a result, city staff recommends approval of the Temporary Automotive Salvage Repair License to Auto Plus Exporter effective until September 15, 2012 subject to the conditions noted on said license.
