Date: July 22, 2012
To: City of Little Canada City Council and City of Little Canada Planning Commission
From: Angie (Mary Angela) Klidzejs and Gunar Bruvelis
Re: Mercils' variance requests for garage construction at 3246 Twin Lake Road
We are writing to comment on the minutes of the Little Canada Planning Commission meeting
that was held on July 12, 2012, regarding Tim and Lacey Mercil's request for two variances
on their property at 3246 Twin Lake Road, for the construction of a new garage.
We are Tim and Lacey's next -door neighbors at 3248 Twin Lake Road, directly to their west.
They share our driveway that is located on the north side of both of our properties.
We still fully support the Mercils' plan to construct a detached garage on the south side
of their property, having their driveway exiting to the south onto the existing Mitchell
Trail.
We look forward to having the Mercils tear down their old garage on their north side and
reseed that area of their lawn by next summer.
However, we are requesting that the Mercils then give up their use of our driveway on the
north, and that the north driveway easement be removed from our property description after
the Mercils' new garage is constructed. We are interested in reclaiming our entire
driveway up to our property line for our family's use, and for the parking of our small
camping trailer when we're not actively using the camper.
Constructing a new city street on Mitchell Trail would cost hundreds of thousands of
taxpayer dollars in an already economically stressful time for all citizens, and it would
also impose undue financial burdens on the homeowners alongside Mitchell Trail by
presumably imposing additional assessments on their properties for a street that's totally
unnecessary. Also, putting in a new city street would cause the destruction of mature
trees, shrubs, and flower gardens, and create a devaluation of our property.
The Mercils' guests already park their vehicles on the even side of Twin Lake Road where
parking is permitted. In regard to visitor parking after their new garage gets built on
the south side, the guests should walk in to the Mercils' property along Mitchell Trail
when they visit, rather than walking in via.our driveway on the north. The same should
apply to deliveries.
Thank you for your consideration. Please let us know if you have any questions.
