MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
JUNE 9, 1999
CUP FOR
OPEN AND
OUTDOOR
STORAGE —
3152 COUNTRY
DRIVE —
BOB DeBACE
Carson asked about the vehicles for sale. Mursko stated that she was not
aware of this. The complaints she has received relate to the aesthetics of
the lot. Mursko reported that in her discussions with Mr. Buetow, he
proposed to construct a building to store equipment in. However, the size
building he is proposing would not be allowed since it would exceed the
size of the principle structure.
Duray suggested that there might be a creative way to screen the property.
Mursko commented that this is a highly visible area, and she also would
recommend full screening and landscaping in this area.
Knudsen pointed out that the property sits so low you would have to
construct a dome over it to provide screening. Knudsen pointed out that
Mr. Buetow purchased the property relying on the I -1 Zoning.
Kraemer pointed out that outdoor storage requires a CUP and a property
owner cannot rely on a CUP being granted. This is something extra.
Kraemer pointed out that the property is surrounded by residential
development and she, too, was concerned about the effect on property
values.
Knudsen recommended denial of the Conditional Use Permit for open and
outdoor storage of equipment as an accessory use for 3104 Edgerton Street
as requested by Mr. Robert Buetow given the fact that it will not be
possible to screen the site to be compatible with the surrounding
residential uses and the open and outdoor storage is not consistent with the
character of the neighborhood.
Motion seconded by Kraemer.
Motion carried 5 — 0.
Mr. Bob DeBace appeared before the Planning Commission requesting
approval of a Conditional Use Permit to allow open and outdoor storage
of equipment and materials as an accessory use at 3152 Country Drive.
Mursko reported that this property is zoned PUD versus the Industrial
zoning of the properties previously reviewed. Mursko reported that Mr.
DeBace applied for a building permit for a fence back in September that
was approved by the Building Official. The fence was constructed in the
front yard of the property and meets Code requirements. The proposal is
to have outdoor storage in the side and rear yards. There will also be three
parking spaces in the front of the building and five in the rear. The front
Page 22
