515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: September 16, 1999
RE: Maple Leaf Court Drainage
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you know, we recently awarded bids for Maple Leaf Court drainage improvements
subject to approval by Ramsey County and the City of Vadnais Heights for their share of
costs. Attached is a letter recently received from the City of Vadnais Heights which
indicates they will not be able to provide formal approval for another 45 to 60 days. This
seriously jeopardizes our ability to complete this project yet this fall.
Given the continued erosion, I feel it is imperative the project be completed this fall to
eliminate the problem as well as the hazardous condition that exists. Therefore, it is my
recommendation we authorize the project to proceed with the understanding that we will
advance Vadnais Heights' share of project costs until they have completed their
improvement process This could mean we would be at risk for their entire share of
project costs if Vadnais Heights does not follow through on past commitments. (Gerry
Urban informed me verbally that he feels there is very little risk to this approach, but he
cannot authorize the city's cost participation it until their council has completed the
process.)
Cc: Terry Maurer, City Engineer
Terry Noonen, Ramsey County Public Works
Gerry Urban, City of Vadnais Heights
PAGE 124
