MINUTES
PLANNING COMMISSION
SEPTEMBER 9, 1999
ZONING CODE
AMENDMENT -
OUTDOOR
STORAGE IN
PUBLIC
DISTRICT
soma
CUP FOR
OPEN AND
OUTDOOR
STORAGE —
3100 COUNTRY
DRIVE —
CITY GARAGE
The City Planner reported that the way the Statute is written, there
is a requirement that a city's zoning ordinance and map should be
consistent with the Comp Plan. Therefore, if this property is not
rezoned to residential, than the Comp Plan should be changed to
reflect the commercial use of the area. The Planner pointed out
that depending on what the City Council does with this issue, an
amendment to the Comp Plan may come back to the Planning
Commission for consideration.
The Zoning Administrator presented a Zoning Code amendment
which would allow for the outdoor storage of materials within
the Public District. The Administrator pointed out that the City
is currently working in Ryan Industrial Park on code compliance
issues including outdoor storage of equipment and materials. The
Public Works Garage has some of these same issues. It is located
in the Public District which already allows outdoor storage of
equipment, but not materials. The Administrator pointed out that
the storage of materials is an essential function of the Public
Works Department in providing services to the City. Therefore,
she recommended adoption of the ordinance amendment as
presented.
The City Planner indicated that it was typical for cities to have
these provisions in their public districts.
Barraclough recommended adoption of the Zoning Code
Amendment relative to the addition of outdoor storage of materials
in the Public Zoning District.
Motion seconded by Keis.
Motion carried 5 — 0.
The Public Works Director appeared before the Commission
requesting the approval of a Conditional Use Permit for open and
outdoor storage of equipment and materials at the City Garage
located at 3100 Country Drive.
The Zoning Administrator reported that the storage would occur
on the north and south ends of the building, noting that the City
Garage property does not have a rear yard.
Page 50
