515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: September 3, 1999
RE: Booster Station Third Pump
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve MoreIan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you may know, we currently have two 100 h.p. pumps at our booster station that pump water
to our water tower. Water usage in our city has steadily increased to the point where current
water usage requires us to operate both pumps to meet water demands while the tower is being
filled. As a result, if one of these pumps were to fail, we would not be able to meet the water
demands of our residents nor be able to provide sufficient water for fire protection. As a result,
the 1999 budget included the purchase and installation of a third pump for $75,000.
To help reduce costs, City staff is administering its own contracts for a complete third pump
installation. Therefore, we have broken the work down by specific contract areas (i.e.
mechanical and electrical). The first phase is to purchase and install the third pump and needed
piping.' The second will be to contract the electrical work needed which is dependent on the
pump /motor brand installed.
On August 11, 1999, I requested proposals to install a third pump, motor, and discharge piping
and fittings. The results are as follows:
Mineral Services Plus No Bid
Brown Pump & Controls, Inc. $25,665
Keys Well Drilling Company $20,600
I have evaluated these proposals and recommend the Council authorize staff to initiate a contract
with Keys Well Drilling Company to install the third pump, motor and discharge piping and
fittings for a total cost of $20,600.
GS:kp
Page 31
