Hanson
Email: cityhall @ci.little- canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: October 21, 1999
RE: Porter House Steak & Seafood Grill
Amend Liquor Ordinance:
Attached is an ordinance amending Section 701.020.G. and portions of 703.030. These changes are
proposed to allow the issuance of a liquor license to the Porter House Steak & Seafood Grill pursuant to
our conversation at the last Council meeting. The key changes are as follows:
♦ Initial investment is reduced from $750,000 to $315,000 including land costs.
♦ Documentation of that amount on an existing building will be evidence of the recent sale of the
property plus costs associated with the renovation and furnishing to make the facility ready for
business.
♦ Seating capacity is reduced from 100 to 90.
♦ Maximum liquor sales are reduced from 60% of the restaurant's gross yearly sales to 40% and
evidence of compliance with this requirement is to be furnished upon each license renewal.
♦ Restaurant building contain a minimum of 1,500 instead of 2,000 square feet used for seating for
dining purposes.
Subject to any comments by the City Attorney, staff would recommend adoption as proposed.
Issuance of On -Sale Intoxicating Liquor & Sunday Liquor Licenses:
The liquor license application materials are attached for your review. Porter House will be submitting
documentation verifying the amount of their investment in the property and a floor plan showing the
square footage of dedicated dining space. Based on staff's review of this matter and discussion with the
applicants, they are in compliance with the terms of our ordinance.
JRH:kpp
PAGE 178
