LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (651) 484 -2177 / Fax: (651) 484 -4538
JIM MORELAN, Director
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: December 15, 1999
RE: Pioneer Park Lighting
Staff is proposing the approval of two change orders to the lighting project at Pioneer
Park. The first change order was mentioned in my memo to the Council dated November
22nd The change order involves the addition of a new electrical transformer at the site so
that 480 -volt lights can be used. These lights are more economical to operate and will
also result in more efficient energy consumption. It was originally thought that the cost
would be approximately $6,000. After a detailed analysis by the contractor and NSP, the
cost of the work if performed by the contractor will be $8,473. Had the transformer been
provided and installed by NSP, the cost would be more than $8,473.
The second change order involves the installation of' an NSP panel, a circuit breaker
panel, meter socket, and various Musko controls into one outdoor enclosure rather than
having four to five individual post- mounted circuit boxes near the existing outdoor
transformer pad. Given that this equipment is in a very visible and high traffic location
near the concession building, staff is recommending the electrical contractor install the
enclosure at a cost of $2,970.
Page 16
