LITTLE CANADA
PARKS AND RECREATION
DEPARTMENT
515 Little Canada Road / Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
Telephone: (651) 484 -2177 / Fax: (651) 484 -4538
JIM MORELAN, Director
DON BOWMAN, Program Coordinator
DEREK ANDERSON, Program Coordinator
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: November 19, 1999
RE: Pioneer Park Lighting Bids
We received seven bids for ballfield lighting in Pioneer Park (see attached). As of today,
the low bidder, Electric Service Company, has provided me with a list of similar projects
they have done, along with several references. We will be following up with references,
and I expect to have a final recommendation by the November 22nd Council meeting.
The low bid is approximately $27,000 above the budgeted amount at this time. Several
factors make up the difference between the estimate and the low bid. They include a
wireless control system, a manufacturer's warranty, and inflation from the time the
project was first estimated in 1996. Based on discussions with the manufacturer (Musco
Lighting), we have received some very competitive bids for this project. There will also
be some additional charges from NSP relative to bringing in the main service to the site.
Along with reference checking, I am gathering some additional information on this
matter and will have a recommendation for the Council's meeting on Monday evening.
Page 94
