515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 551174600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Elizabeth Mursko, Code Enforcement Officer
DATE: April 9, 1999
RE: Workshop to Clarify Ryan Industrial Park Zoning Code Issues
Y2K Update
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
City Staff have some concerns regarding the need to be consistent and reasonable with
our enforcement policy within Ryan Industrial Park. Each property in Ryan Industrial
Park has a variety of circumstances making strict applications of the zoning code very
difficult for property owners to comply with. Therefore, I feel it is necessary to discuss
the following issues and set guidelines and /or parameters that will be acceptable to the
City Council in order for City Staff to adequately reflect these standards in discussions
with property owners and for subsequent planning reports.
After reviewing three Conditional Use Permit applications from property owners in Ryan
Industrial Park, there are several major issues relative to our zoning code that City Staff
felt should be clarified by the City Council. The issues involve:
• Acceptable parking and storage area surfacing materials.
• Exterior storage parameters.
• Whether curbing is necessary and practical in this area.
• Screening (security vs. public right -of -way visibility issue).
• Placement of exterior storage on property.
• Establishment of green areas.
The second item on the agenda for this workshop would be an update of City progress
regarding the Y2K issue.
Page 57
