515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: February 5, 1999
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R Hanson
RE: LMCIT Insurance Coverage (Excess Liability and Boiler and Machinery
Coverage)
Attached are two quotes relative to coverage through the League of Minnesota Cities Insurance
Trust (LMCIT). The first is for excess liability insurance with limits of $1,000,000. This would
be $1,000,000 above the $750,000 statutory limit we are already insured for. This limit would
not waive our statutory defense, but only be in place for items where our statutory defense does
not apply. (Federal Court items such as civil rights claims.) The quote for this coverage is
$6,124. In the past, we have not purchased this coverage and I would recommend the same
action given the cost versus the additional coverage we gain.
The other quote is for boiler and machinery coverage. The premium would be $930. In
reviewing this with our agent, it appears that it would provide minimal benefits to us given our
lack of exposure in this area. Therefore, I do not recommend its purchase.
As always, you may want the City Attorney's comments on these matters. Should you have any
comments or questions in the meantime, please let me know.
JRH:kpp
Enclosures
Paae 21
