515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Greg Schroeder, Public Works Director
DATE: June 18, 1999
RE: Truck Traffic Restriction on LaBore Road
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Now that the roadwork on LaBore Road is nearing completion, we need to address the type of
traffic the City wants to have travel on this road.
I received a complaint stating large semi - trucks were traveling on this road as soon as the base
course was placed. Also, during application of the wear course, I saw a large semi -truck
carrying bulk lumber travel this road three different times.
Obviously, the smooth, wide road is attractive to these drivers. However, there are no
commercial uses located along LaBore Road between Edgerton Street and County Road D.
Further, there is no need for large trucks to travel this section of road as they have good road
access to other truck routes along County Road D, Edgerton Street, and Centerville Road.
If the Council wishes to restrict truck traffic on this section of LaBore Road, I recommend that
signage be at both ends as shown on the attached sketch. The proposed signage has been
reviewed by the Sheriff's office and they feel they can enforce it.
GS:kp
PAGE 260
