WORKSHOP MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MAY 13, 2026
The Community Development Director stated that the purpose of tonight's discussion is to
provide preliminary direction to staff and the interested party regarding the viability of the
proposed use for 39 Viking Drive as an automotive repair shop and tow yard with a second -story
residence. He explained that if the Council was supportive of the proposed business concept, the
applicant would be required to proceed with a formal planning application process. He stated
that he has provided a concept site plan based on the applicant's proposal and noted that the tow
business would operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He noted that there are commercial
uses on both sides of this property, and townhomes immediately adjacent to the rear of the
property.
There was Council consensus to not support this proposal due to concerns of 24/7 operations and
there being immediately adjacent residential use.
BRAND AND LOGO REFRESH PROJECT REVIEW
The Assistant City Administrator stated that the current city logo has been utilized since 1976.
She noted the logo was originally a bright red but was adjusted to a more muted shade of red in
early 2022. She stated that this brand refresh is part of being able to
meet the new accessibility standards.
The goals for this brand and logo redesign include: Design and produce a modernized adaptation
of the current city logo with updated typography; Provide recommended brand color palettes that
include primary, secondary, and grayscale palettes; Provide three to four "graphic elements" to
complement the city's logo that can be utilized as part of the city's website redesign and print
materials; Provide designs compliant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA in all applicable categories;
Redesigning the city's quarterly newsletter.
The Council questioned the sizing of the "C" in Canada on the logo. There was Council
consensus to choose the straight edge logo design. There was Council consensus to choose
option 2 for the font in the "LC" in the leaf.
The Assistant City Administrator reviewed the other design elements that will be incorporated
into the website redesign and other city documents.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:26 p.m.
Thomas Fischer, Mayor
Attest:
eidi Heller, City Clerk
2
