TRUCK REPLACEMENT
Little Canada Fire Department's oldest pumper truck was put in
service in 1969. This unit ( #9) is now 24 years old. Unit #9 is
expected to be replaced in 1994 -95. The Fire Department expects to
have the $150,000 truck fund that was established when the ladder
truck was purchased to be paid up, and that amount to be put toward
the replacement of #9.
To replace a pumper such as #9 today, it would cost approximately
$220,000, as some of our neighboring departments have recently been
delivered new units. Our estimates, as we discussed earlier, show us
to be approximately $70,000 short for this truck.
Another vehicle that will need attention soon is #11 the rescue and
utility vehicle. Unit #11 went in service 19 years ago and its 1993
-- -estimated replacement cost is $100,000. To replace this vehicle in
1997, it would cost approximately $163,849.
Unit #12, the first line attach pumper, will also need attention
soon. This truck was put into service in 1981 and has 11 years of
service. To replace this unit in 2006, it would cost approximately
$542,215.
A reasonable life expectancy for a fire suppression vehicle is 24
years. A long term plan needs to be put in place to accommodate
these necessary purchases to continue our professional protection and
quality of life in Little Canada.
Page 10
-4-
