515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMO
TO: Mayor Hanson and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: June 17, 1994
RE: Fire Truck Purchase
MAYOR
Raymond G. Hanson
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Enclosed is a copy of the bids received as well as a summary of
the pros and cons associated with the purchase of a new fire
truck. The Fire Department is unanimously recommending the
purchase of the Pierce truck. Based on the Fire Department's
recommendation, I would advise that we authorize the purchase of
the truck taking advantage of the discount option by making
payment in full at the time of order contingent upon agreement as
to the specific delivery date with a penalty provision. This
penalty should be applied if the delivery date is exceeded which
would reduce the discounting impact.
It is important to note that the City would be paying the full
purchase price at this time, with the Fire Department reimbursing
the City for any amount over $250,000. Relative to the question
of who would have title to the truck, it would be my
recommendation that we resolve this matter in the renewal of the
Fire Department's contract. That document should be available by
the end of July.
Tom DuCharme from the Fire Department will be present at
Wednesday's meeting to answer any questions regarding the
specifics of the truck purchase. Should you have any other
comments or questions regarding this matter, please let me know.
JH:bj
Page 16
