FIRE DEPARTMENT
VEHICULAR PURCHASING POLICY
I. GENERAL:
The Little Canada Fire Department is an independent, non - profit
corporation. However, because its contracted service area is
entirely within the City of Little Canada and since its primary means
of financial support is through funds provided by the City of Little
Canada on a contractual basis, both organizations agree that
accountability to the taxpayers of Little Canada regarding vehicular
purchases is a necessity. In being accountable to the taxpayers, two
factors are very important:
1. Justification for vehicular expenditures.
2. Use of a purchasing procedure that promotes price
competition while still ensuring the availability of a
quality product.
The overriding goal we attempt to achieve is the maximization of
available resources in terms of providing the most "bang for the
buck." To that end, the following vehicular purchasing policy has
been agreed upon between the City and the Fire Department to govern
future vehicular purchases made by the Little Canada Fire Department.
II. COMMUNICATIONS TO COUNCIL:
Policy Statement: The City Council is to be formally apprised
during the following points in a vehicle purchasing program:
1. At development of a master vehicle replacement
schedule. (City Council approval indicates agreement
with the program and recognition of funding
responsibility and associated implications.) This
Page 2
