MINUTES
Parks & Recreation Commission
August 6, 1998
our field.
Christensen informed Bowman that the Commission has just approved the budget with
$46,000.00 for the lighting of one field for next year. He asked which fields he thought
should be lit first. Bowman said he thought it should be fields one and four and added that
the figure of $46,000.00 was realistic from recent estimates he had received.
Schabacker asked if it would be advantageous to get a bid for 2 fields at one time versus one.
The Director said that there would be minimal savings, if any, as it would take all separate
poles for each field and the main service is already at the site.
Bianchi made the motion to recommend to request funding from the 10% Fund to fight a
second ball field at Pioneer Park for expenditure in 1999.
Motion seconded by Anderson.
Motion carried 7 -0.
Christensen thanked Don Bowman for coining and preparing such an excellent report and
added that they could use it in submitting a request to the Gambling Commission.
Christensen reminded The Director to make reference on the new budget spreadsheet that
would make the lighting a priority.
Christensen reminded everyone of the Canadian Days weekend coming up.
The Director reported that the registration for Fall Soccer included over 200 kids. There will
be one youth volleyball team this year.
The Director also wanted to make everyone aware of the fact that a young man by the name
of Tim Anderson had completed an Eagle Scout project, which included replacing all the bad
boards at the skating rink on Little Canada Rd. He reported that Tim had solicited all the
help, which represented 100 volunteer hours, and coordinated the entire project. It was a
huge project organized entirely by Tim. Christensen suggested presenting him with a
certificate. The Director said he would draft up a certificate.
The Director reported that the Bocce Ball Courts are done.
He reported that the Summer Day Camp was a success with 160 participants this year versus
100 last year. Bianchi said she had heard positive feedback from parents about the counselors
and the Program Director.
Page 7
