515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Deputy Clerk
DATE: October 13, 1998
RE: County Road B-2 Issues
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaVaile
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you will recall, some of the property owners along County Road B -2 between
Edgerton Street and Arcade Street have expressed interest in changing the name of
County Road B -2 given that this has become a City street. A survey of County Road B -2
residents will be done to determine if there is a majority in favor of a name change.
The portion of County Road B -2 between Rice Street and Viking Drive is also being
turned over to the City. However, the section of County Road B -2 in Roseville will not
become a city street, thus the County Road B -2 name will remain in Roseville. I would
like Council direction as to whether or not this west section of County Road B -2 should
be included in the survey. It would be staff's recommendation that for consistency
purposes the name "County Road B -2" remain for this portion of the road on the west
side of the freeway. County Road B -2 between Edgerton and Arcade Street is located
more independently and, thus, could be renamed without causing much confusion.
I would also like to advise the Council that due to the numbering system which exists
along Viking Drive, there are insufficient house numbers to allocate to Jim Olson's
townhome development. Please note from the attached map that the Grand Pre'
Apartment complex has a Viking Drive address, even though the complex faces County
Road B -2. In discussing this matter with Grand Pre', they are agreeable to changing their
addresses to "County Road B -2" while still retaining the same numbering system. This
will resolve the numbering problem for Jim Olson's townhome development, and will
result in Grand Pre's address correctly stating the street on which the complex fronts.
However, if the name "County Road B -2" is going to be changed, we would want to
coordinate this quickly so that Grand Pre' Apartments only has to go through the
transition process once.
Page 22
