515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: October 8, 1998
RE: Extension of Code Enforcement Internship
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As you know, we have advertised and interviewed for the Secretary/Receptionist
position. From the interview process, two prospective hirees were identified, and for
various reasons, the position could not be offered to either of these candidates.
In re- evaluating the City's options at this point, I would like to recommend that as an
interim solution, the Code Enforcement Internship be extended. This position would
remain a temporary position. Elizabeth Mursko is willing to stay on in this capacity.
Elizabeth would continue her code enforcement duties, as well as assist the front office
staff with processing permits, answering Code questions, lunch relief, etc. She is just
beginning work in the Ryan Industrial Park area; and, as you know, there are many
deficiencies that she can address within the Park.
Elizabeth is pursuing her Master's Degree in Public Administration, and is also seeking a
full -time position in this field. While continuing the internship with us, she will also
continue to seek a full -time position.
At this point in time, I believe this is the best solution to our staffing situation. Therefore,
I recommend continuation of the temporary Code Enforcement Internship for an
indefinite period of time, as well as an increase in salary for Elizabeth to $11.30 per hour.
($11.30 is the starting salary we would be paying to the new clerical employee.)
Page 40
