TRANSPORTATION
The transportation system has played a key
role in the pace and location of development
in the City of Little Canada. The
significance of the auto is visible in the
amount of land devoted to streets, highways
and the structures of certain elements of the
community. The key element of Little
Canada's street system is the significance of
State and County arterial roadways.
The basic function of Little Canada's
roadway system is to support the
metropolitan highway system. As such, the
majority of the streets in Little Canada
function as urban collectors or minor,
intermediate, or principal arterial.
Supportive to this framework is the network
of local streets. Ultimately it is these local
streets in Little Canada that will have to be
designed to handle Little Canada's growth,
including the majority of the future low and
low- moderate residential development.
The arterial roadways within the City are
described as follows. First, the City contains
two principal arterial roadways, Interstate
35E, which bi -sects the City, and Interstate
694, which runs along the City's northern
border.
Along the southern border is State Highway
36, which is classified as an intermediate
arterial. Finally, there are four (4) minor
arterial roadways within the City: Edgerton
(County Road 58) which runs north /south;
County Road C, which runs east /west from
Rice Street to I -35E; Rice Street (County
Road 49) runs along the City's western
border; Centerville Road which extends
SYSTEMS 15
northward from Little Canada Road to
Edgerton where it turns into County Road D.
The above mentioned roadways all tie into
the regional roadway system and are
maintained by either the County or the State.
City collector streets which feed the arterial
roadways include Little Canada Road,
Country Drive, County Road B2, County
Road B, Centerville Road, Arcade Street,
County Road C, and Labore Road. The map
on the following page illustrates the existing
functional classification of roadways in Little
Canada.
LITTLE CANADA COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
Page 72
LOCAL AND REGIONAL SYSTEMS
