515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 484 -2177 / FAX: (651) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, Deputy Clerk
DATE: June 19, 1998
RE: Renewal of Cable TV Franchise
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Attached for your consideration is a resolution for renewal of the Cable TV Franchise
with Media One. I have also attached the April 15th memo from Tom Creighton, Legal
Counsel for the North Suburban Cable Commission, which highlights some of the more
significant changes from the previous franchise documents. Finally attached is a renewal
proposal summary prepared by Coralie Wilson, Executive Director, of CTV North
Suburbs.
Representatives from Media One will be present at Wednesday's meeting to answer any
questions you might have. Coralie Wilson from CTV will also be present.
As you will recall, Media One's proposal is to replace existing underground cable with
underground and overhead with overhead in those areas where upgrades will occur. They
are also proposing to leave any abandoned lines in place, whether they be overhead or
underground. The City Council has formally taken the position that all upgraded lines
within the City of Little Canada must be placed underground.
Page 15
