Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
The City's Animal Control Officer has requested that the City consider adoption of a wild
animal ordinance, and has indicated that several cities have adopted such ordinances.
The City periodically receives inquiries asking whether or not it is permissible to keep
wild or exotic animals as pets. There is currently no provision in the Code prohibiting
the keeping of wild or exotic animals as pets. For your information, I am attaching
copies of the other cities' ordinances defining wild and exotic animals.
You may also be interested to know that Section 1.103 of the City Code allows livestock
by permit, and Section 1104 would allow one horse per acre of property subject to certain
requirements. I have attached copies of these sections for your review.
Staff would like your direction and /or comment as to your position on the need for a
revision to the City Code.
Page 105
