Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morel=
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
As discussed at the last Council meeting, staff is proposing it be mandatory that
Permanent Full -Time Employees purchase standard term life insurance coverage as
provided by the City's insurance carrier.
As discussed, due to the date of hire, some employees are on a PERA plan which costs $9
per month, and others are on a PERA plan which costs $12 per month. (See benefit
schedule attached.) The $9 plan was replaced several years ago by the $12 plan. Those
employees on the $9 plan can be moved to the $12 plan provided that their coverage is
terminated for a period of 30 days, and they re- enroll during PERA's open enrollment
period, usually in October of each year.
PERA does not require a minimum participation percentage for this insurance coverage.
The City has been paying $9 per month per employee for life insurance coverage. Those
employees who are insured under the $12 plan pay the additional $3 per month for this
insurance.
Page 114
