Although I have only received a copy of your adopted extension from <br />half of you, I assume you have extended your cable franchise until January 19, 1998, as <br />recommended. <br />Since then, we have been negotiating the final cable franchise with the cable company. Since the <br />same individuals have also been involved in the extensive review regarding the transfer of <br />ownership, the company and the Commission have not completed the final documents for city <br />review. <br />Enclosed please find a proposed Ordinance Amendment, extending the franchise for an <br />additional ninety (90) days. The company and the Commission are convinced that it will not <br />take the full ninety days to finish the negotiation of the documents, but to avoid the city hassle of <br />adopting another extension, the ninety day time period was agreed to. The extension does not <br />change the underlying terms of the current franchise, and basically maintains the status quo until <br />the final new documents are negotiated. <br />Please adopt the attached Ordinance Amendment and send notification to this office. We will <br />send you the new negotiated franchise ordinance as soon as the Cable Commission has reviewed <br />and approved it. <br />Page 24 <br />
