May 19, 1998
Dear Jim,
I am writing to you in regards to the possibility of renting the Pioneer Park Softball Complex on the
weekend of July 18 and 19. While I realize that this is against the policy of the City of Little Canada, I
would like to make you aware of a situation that has arisen.
On Saturday May 16th, 1998 Our softball team was competing in a tournament at Goodrich Park in
Maplewood. After our first game our pitcher had said that he was not feeling very well. A short while later
he collapsed, had a massive coronary and passed away. The individuals name is Jerry Brinker and he was
under insured. We would like to give something back to a man that gave nearly 25 years to the great game
of softball in Minnesota. Jerry was a good man and a great friend and I would like the opportunity to raise
some money to help dispense with some of the hospital bills and funeral expenses that his family has
incurred from this unfortunate event.
While I realize that this is an issue that can not be decided by one individual I would like to encourage you
to pass this request on to the city council of Little Canada and let me know the date in which they will meet
to discuss it as I would like to be present. This event is to be held strictly for charity and not for the gain of
an individual, corporation or softball organization.
Yours truly,
Paul M.
