2742 Park View Court
Little Canada, MN 55117
(651) 490 -3025
December 5, 2012
Mr. Joel Hanson, City Administrator
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
RE: Planning Commission Vacancy
Dear Mr. Hanson:
I am excited to submit my name for consideration of one of the two vacancies on the City's Planning Commission.
Although I have only been a resident of the City of Little Canada since the end of July, I feel I am highly qualified to
serve on the City's Planning Commission.
Prior to moving to Little Canada, I lived for twenty years in Burnsville, Minnesota. For the last eight years, I had
served on the City's Planning Commission, and served two years as Commission Chair. During my tenure, I saw
many planning and zoning issues come before the commission, and also worked on the Comprehensive Plan
Update. I feel I can bring these skills to the City of Little Canada.
In addition, I feel that my professional career can assist me as a prospective Planning Commissioner. I am a
professional traffic engineer, and work with developers and public agencies throughout the Metro area, as well as
across the Upper Midwest. I am a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.), certified Professional Traffic Operations
Engineer (P.T.O.E.), and a certified Professional Transportation Planner (P.T.P.). I have conducted traffic studies
involving Mn /DOT, Ramsey County and Saint Paul, to name a few. My background involves traffic operations as well
as transportation planning. My career has spanned stints with consulting engineering firms as well as municipal
governments.
I have also been recognized on an international level in my chosen career. I recently served as Midwest District
Director on the International Board of Direction for the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). This renowned
professional organization sets the standard for traffic engineering and transportation planning for North America and
the world.
In looking for new places to live, my wife and I say that Little Canada found us! During our house -hunt this spring, we
fell in love with our townhouse just off Little Canada Road. We have spent the last few months exploring Little
Canada, learning the history and making it our home. I would love the opportunity to serve on the City's Planning
Commission, to share my background and experience, and to learn from the City staff, the public and the other
Commissioners, as well as the City Council, the many ways we can make Little Canada a better place for all of us.
The attached is a resume summarizing my background. Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully submitted,
L47F- %` —1 ✓G G
Stephen J. Manhart, P.E., PTOE, PTP
Attachment: Professional Resume
7
