December 5, 2012
Joel Hanson — City Administrator
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road East
Little Canada, MN 55117
Greetings Joel,
I'm writing this letter in response to an article in the 'Le Petit Canadien' newsletter that 1 read just this morning.
The article asks for people interested in serving on the Little Canada Planning Commission to contact you with
a letter of interest & a resume.
Hence this letter serves as my expression of interest in serving on the Planning Commission.
I've been a resident of Little Canada for 24 years since the wife and I built our house on Ontario Road. Both of
our daughters attended LC Elementary.
I find LC to be the gem of the Northeast metro area — a great location & a very pleasant place to live. Even so,
I'm a believer in constant improvement. I'm very much interested in improving the function and aesthetics of
Little Canada (where ever it is logical, affordable, and/or a good return on investment).
The attached resume talks to my professional background but there are a couple of things of particular
interest; I am Green belt certified in Design for Six Sigma, I'm a Certified Program Management Professional,
and I have a PhD (in Electrical Engineering from Purdue).
In addition I would like to emphasize various attributes of my background that I believe are pertinent to serving
on the Planning Commission:
• Great people skills, Team oriented, consensus builder, personable, good at constructing business /teaming
relationships
• 14' years of Technical direction and Program management experience. (I lead large teams of opinionated
and obstinate engineers & rocket scientists on R &D programs for Honeywell).
• Notable depth and breadth of Technical experience and System engineering skills that 1 believe are critical
to being successful on the commission.
• Experienced with working across organizational boundaries and years of experience working with outside
companies (both small and large) and government agencies (NASA, DARPA, US Army, USAF, CIA, RAF,
etc.).
I understand that the people expressing interest will be considered at the City Council meeting on 12/19/12. If
any additional information is desired prior to that meeting, please contact me directly via phone or email (see
below).
In closing, I want to confirm my strong interest in serving on the LC Planning Commission. I am a highly self -
motivated and a high- energy person and I sincerely feel that I am uniquely qualified to fill one of the open
positions.
Thank you for your consideration and the opportunity to serve my home town.
Sincerely,
Barry Roberts, Ph.D.
3031 Ontario Road
Little Canada, MN
bandnroberts @msn.com
612- 951 -5185 work 651- 483 -2799 home
1
11
