MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
JANUARY 3, 2013
Heikke again stated that he felt Option 1 was more like the City already
has. Slain agreed, but pointed out that the traditional playground structure
works and he felt Option 1 was preferable to Option 2.
It was the consensus of the entire Commission that Sanders should work
with the playground architect to modify the two options. The modified
options should be presented to the Commission for their review and
consensus prior to conducting a neighborhood meeting. Sanders agreed,
and indicated that he would see if the playground architect could attend
the next Commission meeting to answer any questions. It was estimated
that if the neighborhood meeting could be held in March and a design
approved at that time, the new structure could be in place by July.
Maida asked if a grand opening would be held. Sullivan indicated that the
City of Roseville showcases each of its parks about once every two weeks
during the summer. This includes a puppet wagon or clowns or
something to draw people to the park.
Vang asked what is currently in place at Nadeau Park, and what the life
expectancy of a playground structure is. Sanders described the structure
noting that it is made of wood and deteriorating. The Director estimated
that a metal structure would have a life expectancy of 25 to 30 years, with
less for a wood structure. Sanders also noted that there are changes in
safety and accessibility laws that new structures will comply with.
Maida asked that the landscape architect be asked to present information
on adult fitness equipment when he or she attends the February
Commission meeting.
2013 GOAL The Director reported that the Council will be scheduling the 2013 Goal
SETTING Setting Session. He noted that the Chair and Vice Chair of the
SESSION Commission will be invited to attend once the session is scheduled.
OTHER The Director reported that Market Place Morning Talks is scheduled for
REPORTS January 9°'. The topic is T'ai Chi Chih education and demonstration.
The Director reported that registrations are open for a basketball clinic,
skating lessons, winter gymnastics, acrobatics and tumbling as well as
fastpitch softball.
