MINUTES
PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION
JANUARY 31, 2013
Slain recommended that the Pinetree Pond park charge be taken in cash
consisting of $2,600 per lot.
Motion seconded by Steinert.
Motion carried 5 — 0.
FIRE BARNS The Parks & Recreation Director reported that there is nothing new to
WARMING report on the fire barns warming house project as the City Administrator
HOUSE has not had an opportunity to meet with St. John's to discuss property
PROJECT acquisition. This matter will be scheduled for discussion at the March
Commission meeting.
NADEAU The Park Consultant introduced Chris DesRoches, Flagship Recreation,
PARK who presented three different playground options for the redevelopment
UPGRADE of Nadeau Park. The equipment is manufactured by Playground
Structures.
Option #1 was described as a traditional playground structure that is
similar to the Thunder Bay playground structure which was installed in
2009 or 2010. In addition to the main structure, there are independent
climbing pieces and swings. Sullivan asked the age range for the
structure. DesRoches indicated that all three options he is proposing are
geared for ages 5 to 12. There are some aspects of each option that will
appeal to the 2 to 5 year old age group.
Option #2 was a concept that combined traditional playground features
with modern ones. DesRoches noted that the structure has a lot of
climbing features, including a rock, as well as independent features such
as swings, a new -style spinner, and mushrooms. He also pointed out the
sand area proposed with an accessible digger.
Option #3 has a more modernistic appearance and also has independent
features such as swings, a spinner, the sand area with accessible digger,
etc.
DesRoches noted that the colors shown in any of the options can be
changed. DesRoches indicated that the color scheme chosen can be one
that will blend into the surrounding area or be one that pops out. He also
noted that various features of each option can also be changed.
2
