December 9, 1996
Mr. Joel Hanson
City of Little Canada
515 Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Mr. Hanson:
This letter is intended as a starting point to explore the possibility of changing the ordinance regarding pulltabs
in Little Canada or at least granting a variance to the ordinance for Saxon Lanes.
My hope is that the ordinance can be changed so that if no authorized eharities will set up a pulltab operation in
a particular business then that business may bring in an outside pulltab operator which, of course, will be under
criteria directed and controlled by the city.
The specific situation for Saxon Lanes is that both the Little Canada Fire Department and Little Canada Days
have chosen not to do business with Saxon Lanes. To my knowledge, no other Little Canada authorized charity
is willing to set up an operation at Saxon.
Under the current situation, everyone involved loses:
(a)
(b)
(c)
Saxon Lanes loses pulltab rent and additional revenues that may come from potential players.
Saxon Lanes' customers lose another service which they have come to expect.
The recipients of pulltab proceeds within the City of Little Canaria will no longer enjoy those
benefits.
It should be noted that many of Saxon Lanes' customers come from other cities, even other states. Our Twin
Cities No Tap Tournament had over 1,700 participants coming from a. five -state area. Our expectations are for
this event to grow significantly in the years to come. This brings many potential pulltab players that will
otherwise not be served in Little Canada under the current situation.
Please tell me what would be the proper procedure for making this request of the City. I will do whatever is
necessary. Thank you for your consideration..
Sincerely,
SAXON LANES, INC.
Harvey L. Anderson
President
Page 14
