515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
MEMORANDUM
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
TO: Mayor Fahey & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: February 7, 1997
RE: Culvert Vacation Hearing - Portion of Viking Drive and Minnesota Avenue
Relative to St. Jude Medical, Inc.
In the latter part of 1995, we entered into a purchase agreement with St. Jude Medical which
would convey to them a portion of property we would receive from the State of Minnesota as
part of the Viking Drive turn-back. (This parcel is approximately 7 1/2 acres in size.) We
also agreed to vacate the excess turn -back right -of -way which is not needed for Viking Drive
in addition to a portion of Minnesota Avenue lying between St. Jude's existing land and the 7
1/2 acre portion they are acquiring from us. We have been finalizing some issues with
MNDOT and feel they are sufficiently resolved that we can proceed with the vacation as
described in our purchase agreement. Therefore, I am recommending we call for a vacation
hearing of the previously mentioned right -of -ways to be held on March 12, 1997.
Once this transaction is completed, we should be able to close the land sale which will
generate approximately $82,000 to the city. I will also have a map that better depicts this
vacation available for Wednesday's meeting to assist in your evaluation of this concept.
JRH:kpv
Page 16
