Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaValle
Steve Morel=
Bob Pedersen
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
I received a call today from Mary Ippel of Briggs & Morgan requesting the tax credit
issue relating to The Provinces financing be removed from the March 26th agenda, and
the matter be discussed in a more informal setting. It was Mary's feeling that holding the
discussion in an informal setting would be beneficial to both the City and Dominium.
I discussed this request with Mayor Fahey. It was his position that the Council should
take the formal position that it does not support 100% affordable housing at The
Provinces. Mayor Fahey requested this formal action be taken at the March 26th meeting.
Once that action has been taken, he would be willing to sit down with Dominium in a
workshop setting to discuss what percentage of affordable housing would work. One
piece of information Mayor Fahey requests Dominium provide, and which can be used as
in considering their request for a higher percentage of affordable housing, is the
percentage of tenants which met affordable housing income levels at the time the
financing was first applied for.
Therefore, two actions required of the Council Wednesday evening. The first is a
resolution declaring that the City Council does not support the designation of 100%
affordable housing at The Provinces. Secondly, the Council should set a workshop
meeting to discuss the issue with Dominium and request documented information which
provides the percentage of tenants at The Provinces which met affordable housing
income levels at the time the financing was first applied for. A suggested date for the
workshop meeting would be Wednesday, April 2".
Page 29
