NORTHWEST ASSOCIATED CONSULTANTS
INC N COMMUNITY PLANNING - DESIGN - MARKET RESEARCH
MEMORANDUM
TO: Little Canada Planning Commission
FROM: Stephen Grittman
DATE: April 8, 1997
RE: Little Canada - Franklin Drywall Architectural Review
FILE NO: 758.09 - 97.05
Background.
Franklin Drywall has submitted plans for a commercial building to be located on Viking
Drive just east of Rice Street. The building will face south towards T.H. 36. Although no
zoning permits are necessary for this building, the Planning Commission is to review the
architectural design of the project for compliance with the Little Canada general
commercial area Architectural Guidelines. This memorandum summarizes a review of the
project against the issues cited in the Guidelines.
Building Materials.
The building is proposed to be covered with two primary materials. The office portion of
the building up front is shown as a brick veneer with aluminum windows. The brick veneer
covers the sides of the office portion of the building as well, to a depth of 30 feet back. The
rear portion of the structure is shown as "rock- face" concrete block. This area will be used
primarily for storage of company materials and equipment, including trucks. The plans do
no indicate colors.
The Architectural Guidelines suggest natural colors. Something other than "concrete grey"
would be recommended for the block portion of the building.
5775 WAYZATA BOULEVARD, SUITE 555 ST.
