Little Canada Road Little Canada, MN 55117 April 8, 1997 Dear Mayor, Ms Scalze and Gentlemen; The Historical Society of Little Canada continues to grow in volume and we hope importance as we accumulate significate and supportive material about the cities past. Our volunteers preserve and share that vibrant past with interested residents, school children and visitors. Because you know our housing and finance need continues to grow, our thought was that we might take advantage of charitable gambling within the cities gaming structure, with all profits going to the Societies housing and expansion budget. However, much to our chagrin, we discovered that the State Gaming Commission requires a charitable organization to have been recognized by the IRS and incorporated by the State for at least three years, and any manager coming from that organization be a member for three years. Though we have been organized since 1977, that official documentation was not effected until this year. We are deeply grateful to the Mayor for his efforts in gaining that non - profit status under the IRS code 509(A), which became effective March 28, 1997. Our Certificate of Incorporation as a non - profit in the State of Minnesota was issued on May 10, 1996. By this letter, we wish to go on record and advise the Council that we want to pursue the charitable gambling option when the required three year recognition is effective in the year 1999. The possible location and the method of cooperation has not yet been selected. Please be advised, however, that any sums realized would help buy or rent space appropriate for our collection of artifacts and written history of north Ramsey county and particularly Little Canada.
