Fahey COUNCIL Beverly Scalze Jim LaValle Steve Morelan Bob Pedersen ADMINISTRATOR Joel R. Hanson Attached is a calendar showing the days available for scheduling the City's Truth In Taxation Hearing. The Truth In Taxation Hearing can be held any dates beginning Saturday, November 29th through Saturday, December 20t. The dates I have "X'd" out on the calendar are not available since the County, School Districts #623 and #624, and Metro Joint District hearings have already been scheduled for those dates. The Council must schedule a Truth In Taxation Hearing. However, a continuation hearing is not mandatory. Should the Truth In Taxation Hearing be scheduled on or after December 15th, there would not be adequate time to schedule a continuation hearing and still meet publishing deadlines. If a continuation hearing is scheduled, but becomes unnecessary, the Council is not bound to hold the continuation hearing. Adoption of the 1998 Budget cannot occur at the Truth In Taxation Hearing. The City is required to hold a separate public hearing for this purpose. That hearing must be held one or more days after the Truth In Taxation Hearing (or immediately following the continuation hearing if one is held) but no later than December 26, 1997. Certification of the final Budget amounts must be made to the County immediately after adoption of the Budget. It would be my recommendation that the City's Truth In Taxation hearing be scheduled for Tuesday, December 2, 1997 at 7 P.M. I would further recommend that adoption of the 1998 Budget occur at the December 10, 1998 regular Council meeting. Page 36
