515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
[612) 484 -2177 / FAX: (612) 484 -4538
September 19, 1997
TO: Mayor Fahey and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel R. Hanson, City Administrator
RE: Request for Widening ofMcMenemy Road
MAYOR
Michael I. Fahey
COUNCIL
Beverly Scalze
Jim LaVaile
Steve Morelan
Bob Pedersen
ADMINI5 IRA7OR
Joel R Hanson
Attached is a letter from Christine Christofore requesting that the west side of
McMenemy Road between St. John's School and Rose Lane be widened before winter.
In discussing this matter with her, I stated that the steep grade of the hill will require
some extensive earth work and possibly a retaining wall. I stated our crews did not have
the time available for this type of undertaking on rather short notice. I also pointed out
the County is planning for the improvement of McMenemy Road between Viking Drive
and Little Canada Road as part of their 1998 improvement cycle. I feel it would be
inappropriate to undertake any significant work which may be impacted by the recycling
of this road next year.
I informed Ms. Christofore that she raises a very valid concern, but it would be better to
address it with 1998's work program.
cc: Ms. Christine Christofore
Page 58
