Little Canada Road
Little Canada, MN 55117
Dear Mayor, Ms Scalze and Gentlemen;
The Historical Society of Little Canada continues to grow in
volume and we hope importance as we accumulate significant and
supportive material about the cities past. Our volunteers preserve
and share that vibrant past with interested residents, school
children, other civic organizations, and visitors.
We have been advised that there may be a once in a life time
opportunity to secure a French genealogy collection. It is our
understanding that the Minnesota Genealogical Society is no longer
able to support the facility where records are housed and are
looking for places to move their respective collections. For
example, we understand that members are interested in St. Thomas
college for the Irish collection and Little Canada for the French.
We have heard, however, that the city of Centerville is very
interested in their French Canadian heritage as well, and one of
our members has indicated that Centerville is eager to provide
space for these reference and research materials. Although we wish
the city of Centerville well and continue to share our research
with them, we believe it prudent that we act in a positive manner
to secure these valuable research materials. In addition, we are
frequently contacted by the Minnesota Historical Society to answer
queries they may receive regarding French Canadian genealogy.
We believe combining our research, while still retaining our
main focus on Little Canada proper , its history, and
government, as well as the collection of artifacts donated by this
community, will make us a stronger, more viable organization.
We wish to advise that, as soon as we meet the legal three
year requirement, we are committed to the gaming proposal suggested
by the Mayor. The proceeds from this commiment, would help to
defray the expense of a permanent facility for the Little Canada
Historical Society.
Page 61
"La Socidi Du Petit Canada"
