CONNECTING THE GENERATIONS
On the last Saturday in May, fifty -
two people ranging in age from
11 to 81 shared their ideas about
how to build and maintain strong
and safe neighborhoods at the
Falcon Heights Intergenerational
Dialogue. This event was
planned by the Keeping Con-
nected volunteers to tap into the
different perspectives of each of
the five generations living in our
community. Understanding and
trust was built across the genera-
tions as participants listened to
volunteers from each generation
respond to questions from the
facilitator, Mayor Sue Gehrz, and
the audience. Intergenerational
small group discussions resulted
in 48 recommendations for ways
to welcome new people into our
neighborhoods, to deal effec-
tively with conflict between
neighbors, and to increase inter-
action among the generations.
These recommendations are be-
ing passed on to the appropriate
city commission or community
organization for follow up.
Pictured (L - R)
Jim Stock
Mary Hess
Rosemary McHugh
Pictured (L - R)
Elizabeth McNautin
Tony Mikelonis
Morrie Nicholson
Mary Mantis
Page 73
